How to get Gum out of Hair

Get gum out of hair easily.

Pour a little EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) on the spot where the gum has attached to the hair strands.

This actually works better than peanut butter.

Work oil into gum/hair by rubbing/kneading for a short while.

Then just gently pull the gum out of the hair strands.

Get Relief from the Heat!

Run your wrists under cold water every hour or so. A main vein passes through this area, close to the skin, so it helps cool the blood and lowers your body temperature.

Or, put a bag of ice under your left arm, where the blood pumps out of your heart.

Coconut Water

Coconut Water - The coconut is a natural water filter. It takes almost 9 months for a coconut to filter every quart of water stored within its shell. This makes the resulting coconut water completely pure and sterile, which is one reason why it can be used for blood transfusions.

Another benefit of coconut water is the fact that it has the highest concentration of electrolytes than anything else found in nature. This makes it an excellent source of hydration.

Homemade Flea Shampoo (for pets)

Tired of your fur baby having those pesky fleas?

Well tonight we took our fur baby "Lily" out on the town (so to speak) when we got home she had some fleas. Nor
mally with store bought flea shampoos we have to wash her a few times to get them all, so tonight we decided to change things up. We made a homemade flea shampoo that worked wonderfully! One wash and we got them all and her fur is super soft!!

We used...
1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup of antibactial soap
1/2 of water (you could use less if you wanted to)
Also we used a empty shampoo bottle to mix it up in.

We mixed all items in the shampoo bottle and shook it up. We got our fur baby completely wet and applied the shampoo. We let the shampoo sit for a few minutes and then rinsed her off and every flea was dead!!

**this is also good for pups with sensitive skin**

We'll be saving money with that now way better then store bought flea shampoos, leaves fur babies smelling fresh and clean!!

Secrets and Tips to making the best Fried Rice

Here are some secrets to making light, fluffy and flavorful fried rice, no matter what ingredients you use.

Use previously chilled leftover rice
To get the perfect fried rice, you’ll want to use yesterday’s rice as it’s had a chance to dry out a bit in the refrigerator. The heat of the pan and the liquid seasoning (soy sauce) will re-steam and hydrate the leftover rice. If you try to use freshly cooked, hot rice (like I did years ago,) you’ll end up with too much moisture in the rice and will make a heavy mess in the pan.

High heat is essential
But high heat doesn’t mean that you need super high BTU’s or a gas stove. All it takes is a bit of patience to let your pan or wok heat up. The high heat ensures that whatever ingredients that you put into the pan gets fried quickly and that each grain of rice gets hot to the core.

Don’t touch
A common mistake of stir frying is to constantly poke, prod, turn and flip every second. In a restaurant kitchen where flames are so powerful they can singe your brows, chefs have to keep things moving. But in home kitchens, our stovetops need a little more time to do their work to heat up and cook our food. If you keep poking at the rice, the grains will break, release more starch and turn the entire thing goopy. It will never have a chance to fry correctly…not enough “wok time” as my Mom likes to say. The best thing is to do is to spread out the rice, use the entire cooking surface of the pan and just leave it alone. Put your spatula down and back away from the stove for a minute. Give the rice a chance to heat up. Then flip, toss and redistribute the rice, again spreading it out and leaving it alone to cook another side.

Fry ingredients separately
Fried rice has many different ingredients, and in my home it’s usually just a mixture of whatever vegetables, meats or seafood I can scrounge up from the refrigerator or freezer. But whatever the ingredients, you want to make sure that you can taste each individual one. To do this, you’ve got to fry your meat or seafood first, remove from the wok or pan when 80% cooked through and then toss it back in towards the end of the stir fry to finish cooking. Because if you try to fry all of the ingredients at the same time in the same pan, they’ll all compete for “wok time” and everything will end up tasting exactly the same!

BACKYARD FUN, NO BUGS

*** GREAT IDEA!! FOR BACKYARD FUN, NO BUGS!! ***

There was some discussion a while back on getting rid of mosquitos. While there's lots of products out there, here's one way to do it, have a stylish yard and keep the costs down too.

All you need is a package of Mason jars, some cotton string (I would suggest get cotton wicks) and some liquid citronella (find it in big jugs at any home-improvement store and even some grocery stores).

Use a hammer and nail to poke a hole in the top of the lid, then pour in the citronella, put the top on and drop in the wick. Allow the string about 10 minutes to soak up some oil, then place them around your backyard and light them!

Perfect DIY Carpet Cleaning Method + Recipe

Perfect DIY Carpet Cleaning Method + Recipe

Ah those wonderful carpet stains. Whether you have pets, kids or Just know some really messy people, if you have carpet then at some point you are going to have carpet stains. There is a great homemade recipe for getting organic stains out of your carpet. Note that organic stains are those made by food, dirt and the like. This is really not a good choic
e for ink or dye stains because it contains vinegar which could potentially make the stains worse.

For the carpet cleaner you will need:
1 part vinegar
2 parts water

That’s all there is to it. Just mix the water and vinegar together in a spray bottle. Spray it over the stain and cover it with a damp rag. Put your iron on the steam setting and iron the rag for about 30 seconds or so, depending on how bad it is. You may have to repeat if the stain is really dark but this will work wonderfully to remove common foods and dirt from your carpet and the vinegar is a good odor eliminator as well so it works really well on pet stains.

Fruit Fly Trap Recipe

Fruit Fly Trap Recipe

Tools

  • 1 pint mason jar or 1 recycled baby food jar, with lid if possible
  • hammer and standard nail OR ice pick OR plastic wrap, rubber band and a fork/skewer/toothpick

Ingredients

  • 1/4–1/2 cup apple cider vinegar, wine, stale beer or bourbon (white vinegar does not work well)
  • small piece of old, overripe fruit
  • 2-3 drops of dishwashing soap (this breaks the surface tension of the liquid, making it hard for the flies to escape)

Directions

  1. If you have the lid for your jar and want to make a long-lasting, spill-resistant trap, use an icepick or nail to poke 8-12 holes into the lid. You want the holes big enough for a fruit fly to enter, about 1/8 of an inch. (Don’t worry, they are too dumb to get out of such small holes, plus the dishwashing soap will help drown them.)
  2. If you don’t have the lid or want to make a temporary trap, use a piece of paper or plastic wrap and a rubber band to tightly cover the top of the jar. Poke several holes into it with a fork, skewer or toothpick.
  3. Fill the jar with about a half inch to an inch of apple cider vinegar, wine, beer or liquor. Stir in a couple drops of dishwashing soap, then place a small piece of overripe fruit into the middle of the liquid. Make sure the fruit is big enough to stick out of the liquid a little.
  4. Place the trap (or traps) where you normally see fruit flies. Every 2-3 days, dump the contents of the jar down the drain or into the compost pile, and start again with a fresh vinegar mix.

ALL-IN-ONE MAGIC BATHROOM CLEANER

~ALL-IN-ONE MAGIC BATHROOM CLEANER~

Seriously... Just do it. You will never buy another store bought cleaner again. This stuff is amazing. I could rave about it all day, but then you'd be sitting here reading what I have to say instead of making it. So go make some now! And SHARE it on your page so your friends can make it too!!

What you need:

-1 Professional Spray Bottle (it is worth the extra $1, trust me!)
-8 oz. Distilled White Vinegar
-4 oz. Lemon Juice
-2 oz. Liquid Soap (I use Dawn)
-2 tsp. Baking Soda
-10 oz water

To Mix: Funnel in all the ingredients, squeeze out the suds, screw on your cap and go make your bathroom sparkle!

To Use:
Clear the surfaces, use toilet tissue to wipe off any dirt, hair, spilled liquids, ect. Using the lightest spray setting, spray down everything--sink, counter, mirror, faucets, tub and the whole toilet, inside and out. I let it sit while I sweep the floor. I then use a microfiber cloth to wipe down the surfaces from the cleanest to the dirtiest. In our house that means mirror, faucets, sink, tub/shower and then the toilet. Be sure to rinse out the tub/shower really well so it isn't slippery.

Stubborn stains in your tub?
Whether its a dirt ring at the top or dirt stuck in the textured bottom, this will solve your problem! Spray down the problem area heavily, and then using a sponge with a non-scratch scrubber, scrub in a circular motion. Again, rinse very well and then put on your shades because its going to be shiny.

Keep those pesky flies away!!

Zip Lock Baggies...........who knew?

We went with friends to a restaurant on Sunday for lunch and sat in the patio section beside the store. We happened to no
tice zip lock baggies pinned to a post and a wall. The bags were half filled with ...water, each contained 4 pennies, and they were zipped shut. Naturally we were curious! The owner told us that these baggies kept the flies away! So naturally we were even more curious! We actually watched some flies come in the open window, stand around on the window sill, and then fly out again. And there were no flies in the eating area! This morning I checked this out on Google.

Below are comments on this fly control idea. I'm now a believer!

Zip-lock water bags: #1 Says: I tried the zip lock bag and pennies this weekend. I have a horse trailer. The flies were bad while I was camping. I put the baggies with pennies above the door of the LQ. NOT ONE FLY came in the trailer. The horse trailer part had many. Not sure why it works but it does!

#2 Says: Fill a zip lock bag with water and 5 or 6 pennies and hang it in the problem area. In my case it was a particular window in my home. It had a slight passage way for insects. Every since I have done that, it has kept flies and wasps away. Some say that wasps and flies mistake the bag for some other insect nest and are threatened.

#3 Says: I swear by the plastic bag of water trick. I have them on porch and basement. We saw these in Northeast Mo. at an Amish grocery store & have used them since. They say it works because a fly sees a reflection & won't come around.

#4 Says: Regarding the science behind zip log bags of water? My research found that the millions of molecules of water presents its own prism effect and given that flies have a lot of eyes, to them it's like a zillion disco balls reflecting light, colors and movement in a dizzying manner. When you figure that flies are prey for many other bugs, animals, birds, etc., they simply won't take the risk of being around that much perceived action. I moved to a rural area and thought these "hillbillies" were just yanking my city-boy chain but I tried it and it worked immediately! We went from hundreds of flies to seeing the occasional one, but he didn't hang around long.
